Dropped kerb applications across Ayrshire
A dropped kerb, or vehicle crossover, is a lowered section of kerb and strengthened pavement that lets a car cross the footway to reach a driveway. It needs consent from the highway authority (your council in England, Wales and Scotland; DfI Roads in Northern Ireland), and the work in the pavement is done by that authority or a contractor it approves.
Driving over a pavement without a dropped kerb is an offence and can damage pipes and cables under the footway, so a new drive with no crossing should not be used until one is in place.
In Kilmarnock we can price work such as preparing a drive to meet a new dropped kerb, digging out an old drive and building a permeable sub-base and fitting setts or steel edging around a new drive.

Planning in Ayrshire
A dropped kerb always needs consent from your council as roads authority, whether or not the driveway itself needs planning permission. A new access onto a classified road can need planning permission as well.
Weather and working days
The West of Scotland is one of the wettest parts of the UK, which makes permeable driveways and careful laying-day planning especially important. We only lay resin on dry days with ground and air above about 5°C, so Kilmarnock jobs are booked with the forecast in mind.

How soon can you survey in Ayrshire?

Do I need planning permission in Ayrshire?
Scotland's householder permitted development rules allow many hard surfaces at a house where the surface is porous or water drains to a permeable area within the property. A fully permeable resin bound build, with a porous base under it, meets that test.
Is the price fixed for Ayrshire jobs?
Yes, once the scope and specification are agreed in writing. If hidden ground conditions turn up, we explain and agree any change with you before doing extra work.
