Patios, paths and steps: common questions
Can resin go over my old patio slabs?
Only if every slab is solidly bedded and level. Rocking or hollow slabs crack the resin, so they are lifted and a new base is laid first.
How wide should a garden path be?
Around 900 mm is comfortable for one person and a wheelbarrow; 1.2 m lets two people walk side by side.
Can resin go on existing steps?
Yes, if the steps are sound concrete or masonry. Loose or crumbling steps are rebuilt first.
Is resin safe around a pool?
With a suitable blend and an anti-slip additive it gives good grip when wet. Splashed pool chemicals should be rinsed off with clean water.
Can a disabled facilities grant pay for a ramp?
In England and Wales councils run Disabled Facilities Grants; in Northern Ireland they are run by the Housing Executive, and Scotland has its own scheme of grants through councils. Eligibility usually follows an occupational therapist assessment.
