FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what people ask before they book a survey.

How much does a resin driveway cost?

Over a sound existing tarmac or concrete base, resin bound is typically about £45–£70 per m² including VAT. With a full dig-out and new permeable base it is typically about £75–£120 per m². A two-car drive of around 40 m² commonly comes to about £1,800–£2,800 as an overlay, or about £3,000–£4,800 with a new base, before edging, drainage and regional differences.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound mixes stone and resin together into a smooth, permeable surface. Resin bonded scatters stone onto a resin coat for a textured, grippy finish that is not permeable.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not for a permeable resin bound drive at a house. In England a front-garden surface over 5 m² must be porous or drain to a permeable area within the property, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland follow the same principle. An overlay on sealed tarmac needs to drain to a permeable area. Flats, listed buildings, some conservation areas and new dropped kerbs are treated differently.

Can you lay resin over my existing drive?

Yes, if it is sound tarmac or concrete. Block paving, gravel and broken or sinking surfaces need to come out and be replaced with a new base first.

How long does it take?

A typical drive over a ready base is laid in a day. A full dig-out and new base usually takes 3–7 days on site.

When can I drive on it?

You can usually walk on it after 4–6 hours and drive on it after 24–48 hours, depending on the temperature.

How long will it last?

Laid correctly on a sound base, resin bound typically lasts 15–25 years.

Can resin be laid in winter?

Only on dry days with ground and air above about 5°C. Rain and cold stop resin curing properly, so laying days are planned around the weather.

Is the survey free?

Yes. We visit, measure, check the base, levels and drainage, and send an itemised written quote. There is no charge and no obligation.

Is the price fixed?

Once the scope and specification are agreed in writing, the price is fixed. The only changes would be ones you ask for, or hidden ground conditions we explain and agree with you before any extra work.

Do you price UV-stable resin?

Yes. Our guide prices assume UV-stable (aliphatic) resin on exposed surfaces, so the figures already include it.

Can you match my colour choice to a sample?

Yes. We bring real samples to the survey so you can see the blend in daylight against your house.

Do you do dropped kerbs?

We help with the application and get your drive ready to meet the new crossing. Consent and the works in the pavement come from the highway authority (your council, or DfI Roads in Northern Ireland) or a contractor it approves.

Who will I be dealing with?

Resin Driveway Contractors is a trading name of S&K Property Investments and Improvement Ltd. Your quote and contract are with that company.

How do I pay?

Payment stages are set out in your written quote before you agree to anything. Large upfront payments are not required.
