Resin bound driveways across Berkshire
A resin bound driveway is a surface of natural stone aggregate mixed with clear polyurethane resin and trowelled by hand to a depth of around 18 mm on driveways. Every stone is fully coated, so the finish is smooth, has no loose gravel, and lets rainwater drain straight through it.
Resin bound is the system most people mean when they ask for a resin driveway. The aggregate and resin are weighed, mixed on site in a forced-action mixer, then spread and finished with steel trowels in one continuous pour, so there are no joints for weeds to root in.
Across Berkshire, the projects we price include overlaying sound tarmac on a two-car drive, building a fully permeable drive on a front garden and adding a channel drain where a drive falls towards the garage.
Prices in Berkshire
For the South East, where typical costs are above the UK average, these are the ranges we would expect before seeing your property.
Resin bound driveways: £50–£135 per m².
Typical Berkshire figures for a 65 m² drive: £3,300–£5,100 over sound tarmac or concrete; £5,450–£8,750 with a dig-out and new permeable base. Both include VAT.
Planning in Berkshire
In England, a new or replaced hard surface of more than 5 m² in a front garden is permitted development only if it is porous, or if rainwater drains to a lawn, border or soakaway within the property. A fully permeable resin bound build, with a porous base under it, meets that test.
Permitted development rights apply to houses, not flats or maisonettes, and some conservation areas have Article 4 directions that remove them. Listed buildings can need consent if railings or historic walls are affected.
Weather and working days
The South East is relatively dry, with long laying seasons, but clay soils are common across much of the region and can drain slowly. If the weather turns on the day, we move the pour rather than risk a surface that will not cure.
